Apple unveiled its first rugged smartwatch — Watch Ultra — alongside the new iPhones and AirPods at the Far Out event. The Apple Watch Ultra is priced at Rs 89,900 and it will be available for purchase starting September 23 onwards. The Watch Ultra brings a lot of firsts for the Apple Watch lineup such as a new rugged design, Action button, dual GPS setup, better battery life, bigger display and more. Apple Watch Ultra is the most-rugged product that Apple has ever made. It is the Casio G-Shock version of the Apple Watch. It focuses on durability and endurance and not fashion.
Watch Ultra is the biggest and brightest Apple Watch ever
With a 49mm titanium case, Apple Watch Ultra is the biggest Apple Watch in the company’s portfolio. At 2000 nits, the Watch Ultra’s display to is the brightest that Apple has ever put in an Apple Watch.
Comes only in one variant
Apple Watch, since Watch Series 3, comes in GPS and Cellular variants. However, Apple Watch Ultra comes in only one size 49mm cellular and there’s no non-cellular version.
Comes with design-tweaks to cater for extreme fitness enthusiasts
Apple Watch Ultra sports design changes that are meant to offer practical and functional benefits. For starters, it comes with a bigger Crown and raised Action button which is not only customisable but also gives physical access to various functions.
New Watch straps designed for Apple Watch Ultra
The Watch Ultra is also paired with a range of new Ultra-specific straps aimed to cater to extensive sports and activities like hiking, running, diving, etc. These include: Alpine Loop, Trail Loop and Ocean Band
Multi-day battery life and low-power mode
Apple claims that the Watch Ultra will last around 36 hours under normal usage on a single charge and around 60 hours with low-power mode which will be rolled out later to watch.
Built-in Siren for added safety
Apple Watch Ultra comes with a built-in Siren that has 86-decibel of loudness. This brings added safety to users in case they get lost or injured and need to send SOS. Apple says the siren can be heard up to 600 ft away.
Updated Workout app to offer more detailed insight on workout progress
The Workout app has been updated and it now claims to offer more accurate data and detailed insight to users such as Heart Rate Zones, Track information, Running form etc.
Wayfinder watch face with Night Mode
Apple Watch Ultra comes with a special watch face — the Wayfinder face — that includes a time dial that can be transformed into a live compass and has room for eight complications. The watch face can be activated by simply rotating the Digital Crown to activate Night Mode.
Dual-frequency GPS to offer better accuracy
Apple Watch Ultra comes with dual-frequency GPS — L1 and L5. The dual-frequency setup allows the watch to offer better accuracy and precise metrics that claim to offer accurate distance, pace and route calculations.
New Oceanic+ app is designed to make diving easier
Apple has also added a new Oceanic+ app which is made for recreational scuba diving and free diving up to 40 metres. The app also comes with a dive planner and includes basic information like depth and time details along with local conditions like tides, water temperature, etc. The app also offers a Safety Stop function and post-dive data.
Crash Detection and other regular Apple Watch features
Apart from the exclusive features the Watch Ultra also includes all the regular Apple Watch features including the all-new Crash detection, Sleep tracking, Fall detection, SpO2 and more.
