1st ODI: Mehidy Hasan special helps Bangladesh edge India in a low-scoring thriller | Cricket News – Times of India
Chasing a par 187, Bangladesh were down and out in the contest as India bowlers produced a superb fightback after a disastrous batting performance. But Hasan, who came out to bat at No.8 showcased nerves of steel against a rampant India bowling attack. Showing sharp presence of mind, Hasan took majority of the strike in the last-wicket stand with Rahman and took his team to the finish line in the 46th over.
Luck also favoured Hasan as he was dropped by wicketkeeper KL Rahul in the 43rd over while attempting a high risk shot off Shardul Thakur when Bangladesh still needed 32 runs.
The 51-run stand between Miraj and Mustafizur is now Bangladesh’s highest 10th wicket partnership and the fourth-highest 10th wicket partnership in a successful ODI chase.
As it happened
It was always going to be a task cut out for India bowlers defending a score below 200 but pacers led by Mohammed Siraj (3/32) almost got India a miracle win with their lion-hearted efforts. Siraj along with Deepak Chahar, debutant Kuldeep Sen and Shardul Thakur shared 7 wickets between them while offie Washington Sundar also grabbed a couple of wickets to bring India close.

The disciplined bowling from the Indians reduced Bangladesh to 136 for 9 in the 40th over but after that the team got carried away and there were fielding lapses, overthrows along with a couple of dropped catches that helped Hasan and Rahman grab a stunning win.
Earlier, India had a horrible outing with the bat that saw the India big guns getting dismissed cheaply followed by a shock middle-order collapse as Bangladesh bowled out India for 186 in the 42nd over.
The experienced Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli trio fell cheaply for 27, 7 and 9 respectively while the last 6 wickets fell for just 34 runs as Bangladesh made terrific use of the home conditions.
The strong bowling performance from Bangladesh was led by veteran Shakib Al Hasan who helped the hosts bundle out Rohit Sharma and co. for a lowly score.
All-rounder Shakib starred with the ball, picking up his fourth five-wicket haul in the one-dayer and was provided excellent support by pacer Ebadot Hossain, who grabbed 4 wickets.

On a track that assisted both seamers and spinners, Indian top-order barring KL Rahul (73 off 70 balls) flopped badly.
Rahul struck 73 off 70 balls on a day when the others struggled to get going and when the side was packed with all-rounders. Rahul hit five fours and four sixes.
At 49 for three in the 11th over as India needed a partnership to steady after a top-order failure. KL Rahul joined Shreyas Iyer (24) in the middle but the latter was dismissed by Ebadot Hossain (4/47), who was rewarded for bowling to a plan that works best against Iyer — short-pitched stuffs.
With the small 43-run stand coming to an end, Washington Sundar (19) walked in and looked to help Rahul in building a partnership. However, the duo could add no more than 60 runs as, shortly after Rahul reached his half-century, Washington picked a fielder while trying to play the reverse sweep against Shakib.
In the next over, Ebadot sent back Shahbaz Ahmed and Shakib then dismissed Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar to leave India tottering at 156 for eight.
Rahul too eventually fell in the 40th over with Hossain scalping Siraj for the final Indian wicket.
