2nd ODI: Rohit Sharma’s late fight goes in vain as Bangladesh beat India to seal series | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Skipper Rohit Sharma, who injured his left thumb and index finger while attempting a catch at second slip during fielding, exhibited a great character and courage on Wednesday as another edge of the seat thriller saw Bangladesh beat India by 5 runs, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Rohit, who left the field after the injury, came back to bat at No. 9 position but couldn’t take India home despite playing a breezy 28-ball 51-run unbeaten knock against Bangladesh in the second ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
With six runs needed off the last ball, Rohit couldn’t get the ball over the line off Mustafizur Rahman.
With the win, Bangladesh claimed their second successive ODI series win against Team India on home soil. After winning an ODI series back in 2015 2-0, Bangladesh now have their second series win in the bag against India.

The hosts won the opening ODI by one wicket at the same venue.
Opting to bat, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (100 not out) slammed his maiden ODI century and put on a 148-run stand with Mahmudullah Riyadh (77) to lift Bangladesh to a challenging total of 271/7 after being reduced to 69 for six in 19 overs.
For India, Washington Sundar (3/37) was the most successful bowler, while Mohammed Siraj (2/73) and Umran Malik (2/58) also took two wickets each.
Chasing 272, India lost openers Virat Kohli (5) and Shikhar Dhawan (8) early. After that Shreyas Iyer got hold of the situation as he made 82 while Axar Patel scored a run-a-ball 56 but eventually India fell short as they were restricted to 266 for nine in 50 overs.
Rohit hit three fours and five sixes in his blitzy knock. For Bangladesh, Ebadot Hossain (3/45) picked up three wickets while Shakib Al Hasan (2/39) and Miraz (2/46) scalped two wickets each.
