Google is close to being just about everywhere and Gmail is one of the most popular email services being used these days globally. There are several reasons why people would want to switch to or add a new email service. For some, it helps them segregate some aspects of their social life from their work-life, some may want to do it because they do not want Google serving them ads while a few may be anti-Google even and could be trying to leave as few footprints on the GSuite apps as possible. Whichever category you may belong you, we have fished out for you a few alternatives. Read on:
Apple iCloud Mail: For those in the Apple ecosystem
If you have an Apple account, you may also have an Apple email address. You could check for it by logging into your Apple or iCloud account portals. If you are an Apple user, then you can send email through the Mail app on a compatible device. The Apple Mail app lets users manage their Apple addresses from one place. Otherwise, there is the iCloud web app also to access your emails. The Apple iCloud mail is free with supported Apple devices.
Yahoo Mail
Another popular alternative to Gmail is Yahoo Mail which comes with free and paid versions both. The free plan gives 1TB of storage to its users. The paid version is Yahoo Plus which
costs $5 per month. With Yahoo Plus, users get up to 5TB of storage for emails and other features like reply reminders, disposable email addresses, etc. The email service gives features similar to Gmail and has apps for the mobile platform also. Go for it if you want a basic, no-fuss email service with plenty of storage.
Fastmail
A Basic Fastmail subscription costs $3 per user per month or $30 per year. The Basic version gives you 2GB of storage. Then there are Standard and Professional accounts also that cost $5 per month/ $50 per year (with 30GB storage) and $9 per month/$90 per year (100GB of storage). The email service is similar to Gmail and comes with features and tools like calendar, contacts, snooze and pinned messages etc.
Outlook.com:
If you have a Microsoft account and do not have an Outlook account, you can sign up on Outlook.com for free. Microsoft Outlook is integrated with MS Office suite apps like Word and Excel. To separate your emails, there are the Focused Inbox and the Other Inbox. If you go for a free account, you’ll get 15GB of email storage and 5GB OneDrive storage. You could also go for a Microsoft 365 account, which costs $69.99 per year per person or $99.99 per year for a family and bumps up the email storage to 50GB and OneDrive storage to 1TB. Plus it also makes your emails encrypted and removes ads, and unlocks email encryption. Also, with a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can download all the desktop MS Office apps. This is the email service that would be ideal for office-related things.
ProtonMail
ProtonMail lets users send end-to-end encrypted emails and has both free and paid plans, with the paid plans (the Plus account) being the better deal as free users don’t get much when it comes to features. A Plus account would set you back 5 euros per month or 48 euros per year. It comes with 5GB of storage, custom domain options, the freedom to use up to five email addresses, etc. You can also send up to 1,000 messages per day. There are also Professional (8 euros per month/75 per year) and Visionary (30 euros per month/288 per year) accounts that add more services. This is the email service to go for if you are very private and encryption-focussed and wouldn’t have it otherwise.

Skiff Mail offers end-to-end encryption but only when emailing to other Skiff users. The free version offers 10GB of email storage. There is a Pro version also which could be availed of at $10 per month and offers 100GB of email storage.
