69% mobile users face signal issues on a daily basis: Survey – Times of India

Call quality and network coverage still remain a major issue for most subscribers, as per a survey conducted by LocalCirles. As much as 69% of respondents said they face call connection and drop issues every day.
Just 26% reported having good voice coverage across all three telco majors, Airtel, Jio, and Vi. On the other hand, a lowly 5% reported experiencing the same call quality at their workplace.

Airtel and Jio work best at home and workplace, respectively; Vi ‘suffers’ in both places
Interestingly, those surveyed rated Airtel’s voice calls as the best at home, with 46% of votes compared to Jio’s 42%. Similarly, Jio led the race when it came to call quality at the office, with 31% votes compared to Airtel’s 15%. But, Vi lagged behind in both areas with only 32% saying it works best at home and just 5% saying it works best at their workplace.
A chunk of surveyed subscribers don’t get 4G/5G network services for most of their day
Among the respondents, 32% subscribers said they don’t get coverage for most of the day despite paying for 4G or 5G services. 20% of the people reported facing connectivity issues for more than half of their calls.

While Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has pointed out that 5G needs time to work well in this regard, its network coverage is expected to improve by 2023-end. However, inconsistent 4G coverage is a reasonable Quality of Service (QoS) issue as there have passed several years since the fourth generation telecom network came out.
TRAI plans to address the telecom shortcomings soon
In the wake of the survey results, TRAI scheduled a meeting with telco companies for February 17. The agenda of the meeting will be discussing the potential “measures and action plan to improve the QoS, review the current QoS standards, QoS for 5G services, and unsolicited commercial communications.”
