8BitDo Is Making A Retro Mechanical Keyboard Inspired By The NES And Famicom
8BitDo has unveiled its first mechanical keyboard, a wireless device inspired by classic Nintendo Entertainment System and Famicom consoles. Like its controllers, the 8BitDo Retro mechanical keyboard will be highly customizable, and it even comes with a pair of oversized Super Buttons that can have custom functions mapped to them.
The keyboard has 87 keys, is compatible with both Windows and Android, has hot-swappable keycaps, and will be available in two editions. The N Edition has an almost all-white design with grey, red, and charcoal accents reminiscent of the classic NES console design, while the Fami Edition has maroon and black colors that make it look like a Famicom accessory.
For battery life, the keyboard has a 2,000mAh Li-on battery that can provide up to 200 hours of use from a four-hour charge. 8Bitdo has priced the keyboard at $100, and preorders will open up on July 31 ahead of an August 10 shipping date.
8BitDo has been steadily increasing its hardware options throughout 2023, as it revealed its own take on the SNK Neo Geo controller in early July and a more affordable version of its Ultimate Controller was launched in May.
The company has also produced its very own arcade stick, which happens to be an all-around great fight stick and option for anyone looking to get competitive in games like Street Fighter 6 or upcoming brawlers like Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8.
