Tottenham’s transfer business suggests Daniel Levy has Harry Kane masterplan

Harry Kane has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, but as we enter the final week of the transfer window, it looks increasingly likely that Pep Guardiola may have to wait until next summer due to Tottenham’s transfer dealings.

As we prepare to enter the final week of the summer transfer window, Harry Kane is still currently a Tottenham player despite major interest from Manchester City.

Kane expressed his desire to leave the club earlier this summer and City had a £100million bid rejected for the England captain, and the saga has continued all window.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has retained his stance and unless his sizeable valuation is met, Kane will not be leaving north London this summer, as he still has three years remaining on his contract.

Kane made his first appearance of the season on Sunday as he came off the bench during Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Wolves, and it looks increasingly likely that the Englishman will continue at Spurs for the season ahead.

Away from Kane, Tottenham have been busy this summer since appointing their new director of football Fabio Paratici, and their business so far seems to suggest that they’re preparing for a sale next year, instead of during this window.

Tottenham have signed Bryan Gil for £23m in a deal that saw Erik Lamela replace the Spaniard at Sevilla, and sales of Juan Foyth, Toby Alderweireld and Joe Hart have raised £26m to balance the books.

Spurs are on the verge of signing young midfielder Pape Sarr from Metz in a deal worth £14m that will see the 18-year-old return to the French club on loan, but Serge Aurier is expected to leave Tottenham this window, for a similar fee.

Therefore, Tottenham are currently in an excellent financial position, and may have signed Atalanta pair Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero on loan for a very specific reason.

Both have been signed with an option to buy next summer and would cost a combined £61m plus add-ons, meaning that a sale for Kane makes much more sense ahead of next season for Levy.

Kane signed a six-year-deal back in 2018, and all of the power is in Tottenham’s hands much to the dismay of the star-striker, who assumed he had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the Spurs chairman.

The England captain could still be sold next summer for a substantial fee, as Kane will still have two years remaining on his deal in 2022, which will give Tottenham a whole year to find a suitable replacement.

The loan deals of Gollini and Romero are expected to become permanent next summer, and Sarr will join up with his new side following his return from Metz ahead of the 2022/23 season.

This will leave Tottenham with a large budget to secure a new forward next season if they were to sell Kane in the summer of 2022.

Tottenham have been in talks with Adama Traore according to the Guardian, and the Spaniard flourished under Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves, so could join next summer if a deal isn’t possible during the current window.

Levy will be hoping that if Kane is to stay, he can help break his side into the top four as a parting gift, and Tottenham are off to a flying start this season after winning both of their opening games.

There is just one week remaining of the current window and all eyes will be on Kane as we wait to see if Tottenham can keep hold of their man.
