Four strikers Arsenal and Tottenham could sign after missing out on Lautaro Martinez
Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez signed a new contract on Wednesday, leaving Arsenal and Tottenham rueing their decision not to sign him over the summer. And with striking problems rife at both clubs, Express Sport takes a look at four options both clubs should consider over the summer.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Calvert-Lewin has established himself as one of the top English strikers in football over the last couple of years, with only Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Danny Ings scoring higher in the last two seasons.
The youngest of the quartet by far at just 24, the Sheffield-born striker has excelled massively at Everton by scoring 32 Premier League goals in just 72 league games and is yet to come into his peak.
And with a need for a new spearhead at the head of both attacks, both Arsenal and Tottenham should have Calvert-Lewin on their shortlists no matter the price.
Andrea Belotti
Belotti has consistently been one of the best strikers in the Serie A since his move to Torino in 2015, scoring 93 in just 214 games for a side who aren’t considered a top-half outfit.
Having finished in the top half just three times in his six seasons, Belotti has done well to record double figures in every season at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
Firing himself to stardom in 2016-17 with 26 league goals and having scored 12 goals in 39 Italy appearances, Belotti is a household name in his country.
And with his contract expiring in the summer, his signing would be an astute piece of business for either club.
Dusan Vlahovic
Vlahovic is another striker who burst onto the scene in Serie A, albeit at the age of just 20.
The youngster signed for Fiorentina at the age of 18 and has since scored 32 goals in 87 league games at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
He has been linked with Tottenham and Arsenal recently and the pair could be well-positioned to sign him with the striker recently rejecting a new contract offer and weighing-up his Fiorentina future.
Mauro Icardi
One of Martinez’s national team partners, Icardi would represent solid business for the north London pair.
The striker, 28, is currently embroiled in a war with his wife Wanda and as a result has regressed from the Paris Saint-Germain side.
With options limited in the French capital due to their star-studded squad, the Argentine could move to the Premier League.
And with an impeccable striking record boasting 144 league goals in just 270 games in his career, he would walk into most Premier League teams if given the chance.
