google meet: Google Meet to allow up to 500 people in video calls for select customers – Times of India
Google is set to expand the maximum number of participants in a Google Meet video call to 500 for select subscribers. The company announced this on its Workspace Updates blog. As per the announcement, subscribers to the company’s Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Education Plus tiers can now allow up to 500 participants in a single Google Meet call, up from 250 for Enterprise customers.
The rollout of the feature has begun and is expected to be complete by November 19, i.e. Friday. The participant limits for the eligible programs will automatically be enhanced to 500 for all the meetings. For an even bigger meeting, users have the option to live stream which can be watched by up to 100,000 people at once.
The participant limit extension to 500 members is, however, not available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Enterprise Essentials, Education Fundamentals, Frontline, Nonprofits, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, or G Suite Basic and Business customers, said Google.
It looks like the virtual meetings are here to stay in fashion for a longer amount of time than we expected. While some workplaces have begun to adjust to a hybrid work culture that involves working from home and office both, with the employees working in shifts (which means cutting down on the crowd) but when it comes to holding a big-sized meeting, they are still risky. This could be the reason why Google is taking steps on expanding the number of participants so that big meets don’t end up being broken into smaller meetings, causing loss of time and effort both.
