The Premier League game was due to kick off at 2pm, but was called off just at 1.10pm after Storm Arwen coated the pitch in snow.
The postponement just 50 minutes before kick-off left thousands of fans without a match to watch in Burnley after a journey of 230 miles from London.
But while it was a difficult day for many fans, no one could top the experience of Ken and Brandy Saxton, who had made the trip to Burnley from Dallas, Texas.
The American couple travelled 4,600 miles, setting off on Friday morning with a flight to Washington before jetting into London’s Heathrow Airport the following day.

Kane became aware of the couple’s misfortune after the tweet picked up nearly 16,000 likes on the social media platform.
Quote-tweeting Ken, Kane wrote: “Just been sent this tweet and absolutely gutted for you! For your commitment and to make up for the match being called off I’d like to invite you to a home game as my guest when you’re next in London.”
Ken soon replied, saying: “Cheers Harry and not necessary at all, but we would enjoy taking you up on the offer. Thank you and to all Spurs (and other football fans) who have reached out. Amazing really.”
It looked like a generous offer from the England striker, but fans soon noticed a potential problem with the arrangement.
Eagle-eyed supporters spotted a tweet from Ken from September 26 after Spurs’ 3-1 defeat by Arsenal in the north London derby, which was less than complimentary of Kane.
“Funny how the best performance of the season was WITHOUT Kane on the pitch,” he wrote.
“Changing rooms a f****ing disaster. Need a manager with the b****xs to sit him and make Son’s team 100%! Winter window; sell Kane. It truly needs to happen.”
It remains to be seen whether Ken and Brandy take Kane up on his offer, but it doesn’t seem like they were too disheartened by the Burnley postponement.
The couple were still able to catch up with some Spurs fan friends they made during their first ever live game against Stoke six years ago.
“You know you’re a little disappointed, but honestly I come here to hang out with my friends more than the football,” Ken told The Athletic.
“Don’t get me wrong I love Tottenham and the football, but I love my people and that was maybe the hardest bit was they have to leave now to get back to Stoke.
“But we’ll hang out here, we’ll have a good time hanging out with our friends.”
