Timothée Chalamet Shines in the First Sneak Peek of Wonka as the Eccentric Singing Chocolatier
While DC movies took center stage during Warner Bros.’ presentation at CinemaCon 2022, fans were in for a treat, when they got to see the first trailer for Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet.
The movie is set to release in December 2023, but it seems like Warner Bros. had a lot of footage worth sharing to the public, as the second day of the event saw some musical spectacle from Chalamet.
Wonka is based on the character made popular by author Roald Dahl in his children’s novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which debuted in 1964. The movie will serve as a prequel to both the novel and the 1971 live-action adaptation titled Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, in which the character was played by the legendary Gene Wilder.
“You’ve never had chocolate like this!” We just saw a bunch of footage from #Wonka – looks like a big, colorful, feel-good musical rooted in the relationship between Wonka (Timothée Chalamet) & his mom (Sally Hawkins). Will be a big holiday family movie, for sure#CinemaCon pic.twitter.com/qcFt5ma9gw

Paul King, who helmed the Paddington series, will serve as the movie’s director, and by the looks of it, it seems like fans will have some catchy tunes to hum with.
The footage begins with the song Pure Imagination, which was part of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’s soundtrack. We then see Chalamet trying to make and sell some of his delicious chocolate on the streets, before he gets chased away by the police for selling chocolate illegally. The clip ends with a note from Wonka’s mother, which states:
The movie features a star-studded cast with actors like Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key also making an appearance, and it will release during Christmas 2023.
