Apple iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus: What’s same and what’s not – Times of India

Apple iPhone 14 series is here. And with it four new iPhones – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple has ditched the Mini version. With the addition of the Plus variant, Apple appears to be aiming at customers who want a bigger display.
While the difference between the non-Pro and Pro iPhone models is quite huge this year, wonder how the two non-Pro versions compare? Here’s iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus
Apple iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus: What’s different
Bigger size and display
The most obvious difference between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 is the size. The ‘Plus’ features a 6.7-inch display, iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch screen. There’s also a slight difference in resolution. iPhone 13 has 2532×1170-pixel resolution at 460 ppi, while iPhone 14 Plus has 2778×1284-pixel resolution at 458 ppi
Bigger battery
Another difference is in terms of battery life. Apple claims up to 20 hours of video playback time and 80 hours audio playback on iPhone 14; the same on iPhone 14 Plus is up to 26 hours and 100 hours respectively. Both phones can charge up to 50% in around 30 minutes with 20W adapter or higher (available separately). While Apple does not reveal the battery capacity of iPhones, the claimed figures certainly point towards a bigger battery on the Plus model.
Apple iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus: What’s similar
Design: Features similar design
Apple has reserved most of the newbies and Pro-grade features for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus retain the design language of previous generation iPhones including the notch, camera setup, etc. In fact, both iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus more or less share the exact same specifications and features as iPhone 13.
Both the models come with aluminium frames with an older notch design. Both models are IP68 water and dust resistant, have the same camera housing and come in the same colour options — Starlight, Midnight, Blue, Purple and Product RED.
Display: Expect size and resolution, everything else is the same
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus comes with the same XDR Retina display with a 60Hz refresh rate (no Pro Motion support). Apart from that, both the phones support HDR, True Tone, Wide colour (P3), Haptic Touch, 20,00,000:1 contrast ratio (typical), 800 nits max brightness; 1,200 nits peak brightness (HDR) and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.
Performance: Both iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are powered by the A15 Bionic chipset
The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are powered by the A15 Bionic, the same chipset from iPhone 13 series as Apple has decided to keep the latest and greatest iPhone Pro models. With the same chip, we can expect a similar level of performance as the previous-generation iPhone 13 series.
Also, the storage variants of both the phones are the same — 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
Camera: Comes with the same dual 12MP rear camera setup
Like the display, the regular and Plus models share the camera hardware which includes two 12MP sensors at the back and another 12MP sensor at the front. Also, both models are equipped with a new Photonic Engine. According to Apple, this improves the low-light performance of the smartphones.
