Amazon Prime Day 2: Predicted deals & top tips to shopping the sale

Amazon delighted shoppers with the announcement that it will be running a second big sale in October. While Prime Day finished earlier in July, shoppers will have another chance to bag massive discounts with the Prime Early Access sale. Similar to Prime Day, it’s a two-day global shopping event that will see brands drop prices to all-time low prices and officially kicks off Black Friday season and will be available exclusively to Prime members.

This year’s Amazon Prime Day took place on July 12 & 13, 2022 and prices were slashed by 70 percent off and more. The Prime Early Access sale should see brands like LEGO and Samsung drop to similar discounts. Last year, Black Friday took place on November 25, 2021, so the addition of the Prime Early Access Sale comes as perfect timing to get even earlier savings on Christmas shopping.

The Prime Early Access Sale will officially happen on October 11, 2022 and end midnight on October 12, 2022. However, if you want to make sure you get discounts on products before they sell out, be sure to check out Amazon’s deal page ahead of the day as products will be expected to sell out fast.

Amazon will also be partaking in Black Friday and while they have not officially announced dates, it’s expected to happen from mid November until the end of the month. Black Friday is a longer sale event and will give shoppers the chance to shop a variety of discounts. But we don’t recommend waiting too long on sales as last year’s Black Friday saw products sell out in hours.

The sale is available exclusively for Amazon Prime members, which means that you need an active membership to get discounts. If you don’t have an Amazon Prime membership, you can easily sign up for one here and get a free 30 day trial. Prime membership costs £95 a year or £8.99 a month and includes benefits like fast, free delivery, access to Prime Video, free delivery on Deliveroo with orders above £25, two-hour delivery on grocery orders above £40 from Amazon Fresh and Morrisons. 

Amazon hasn’t announced what’s going to be discounted yet but you can expect that Fire TVs and Amazon devices will be on offer for low prices. If you’re after the Echo Show 5 and Echo Dot, you’re in luck as both are currently discounted to its cheapest price.

Shoppers can expect to find products discounted in every category like tech, gaming, fashion, home, gardening, kitchen, cleaning, beauty, food & drink and more. Top brands that are expected to be on offer include Shark, Nespresso, Philips, Oral-B, Samsung, Xiaomi, iRobot, LEGO, Melissa & Doug and Hasbro.

The sale is also predicted to see some of Amazon’s lowest prices on products from Elemis, Braun, COSRX and Tefal, making it perfect to shopping beauty and grooming gifts.

Although this may seem obvious, do remember to sign up to Amazon Prime before the sale starts so you can maximise the most of the short sale duration period. You can sign up here and also cancel anytime if you no longer wish to continue after the sale.

Finding out what you need or want to buy ahead of the sale can help you alleviate shopping anxiety and overspending. If you’re buying Christmas presents, make a list of who you’re buying for and what you want to get them. You don’t have to know the exact product, but know what sort of item you’d like is good as it can help you stay on track.

Another tip to avoid overspending is to budget your maximum spend. However, be aware that you may spend a tiny bit over so having some flexibility will allow you to get the best value deals.

The cheapest deals aren’t necessarily the best as you can find similar models with better features for slightly higher prices.

Other retailers will be expected to price match with Amazon so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the same product but at other places like Currys, Argos, John Lewis and more. It’s worth a check to see if other retailers will offer additional bonuses like freebies on orders.

Due to the countless deliveries in the Amazon Prime Early Access sale, it’s possible that some parcels may go missing. Nick Drewe, founder of WeThrift, recommends that shoppers immediately contact the retailer to notify them of the missing parcel. “As outlined in the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the retailer has full responsibility for the condition of products until they are received by the customer.”

Another tip that he recommends is to check payment methods and if you use PayPal to purchase, then you’re protected by Buyer’s Protection Guarantee. If you use your credit card, you can try to claim the claim under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, as long as the paid item is worth from £100 to under £30,000. For debit card purchases, contact your bank and inform them you want to use the ‘chargeback scheme’ for non-delivered items.
