Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refused to answer one question in his post-match interview following his side’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday. Bukayo Saka scored the winning goal from the penalty spot after Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino had twice brought the Reds level from Gabriel Martinelli and Saka goals in the first half.
Towards the end of the game both Klopp and Mikel Arteta were spoken to by the referee as tempers appeared to flare. When asked by Sky Sports’ Geoff Shreeves if he would reveal what the official told him, Klopp gave a blunt reply: “No.” When pressed on why he would not elaborate, the German gave his explaination: “Because I think I am not allowed.”
Klopp also confirmed two injury blows and that Arsenal’s winning penalty was “soft” after the game. “The early goal was the opposite of everything we wanted,” Klopp added. “It was the worst possible thing that could happen. We should have defended better. We deserved the equaliser. 1-1 at HT was okay, but we got counter-attacked. We had to do the good stuff again and that is what we didn’t do in the second half.
“We should have sorted it before the penalty. We didn’t do that. If it’s a penalty, it’s very, very soft. Mr England didn’t think it was worth sending the referee to the screen, same in the first half with Diogo [Jota] on Gabriel. We can’t change that anymore. Two massive injury blows for us. Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Luis. Luis Diaz – something with the knee, not good.”

Liverpool icon John Barnes believes that the penalty that Saka scored was “soft” but praised an improved performance by his former side.
“It was a better performance from Liverpool, against Brighton although they drew 3-3 – we really should’ve beaten Brighton,” Barnes told Sky Sports. “But give special praise to Arsenal, this young team could’ve capitulated when it went to 1-1.
“Liverpool dominating the game, Arsenal went 2-1 up, 2-2 and we’ve seen in the past the young players heads go down, can they see out the game? I think it’s a soft penalty but overall, Arsenal showed their steel and their mettle in adversity.”
