MediaTek launches first SoC for VR, to power Sony PlayStation VR2 – Times of India
MediaTek made the announcement during the company’s Executive Summit but did not give too many details on the chipset. However, the company did show the PlayStation VR2 headset to those present at the event. The development comes as a big step for the company because almost all standalone and connected VR headsets are powered by Qualcomm chipsets.
Sony’s PlayStation VR2 price, pre-order and launch date
Earlier this month, Sony announced that the PlayStation VR2 price has been set at $549.99 in the US. The pricing for the device will vary by region. It will go on pre-orders from November 15 and those interested in the US, the UK, France and Germany can purchase it starting February 22, 2023.
Interested customers can purchase the unit with Horizon Call of the Mountain for $599.99. It is to be noted that the PlayStation VR2 will only work with PlayStation 5, so you’ll have to purchase a PS5 console if you are buying the VR headset.
As far as Sony PlayStation VR2 specifications are concerned, it comes with a 4K HDR OLED HDR display with 4,000×2,040 pixel resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The headset gets a 110-degree field of view. There are four cameras and an IR camera for eye tracking. Other features include See-through View for access to the real world and Tempest 3D audio.
Meta Quest Pro
The Sony PlayStation VR2 headset will compete with Meta Quest Pro, which is priced at $1,499. The headset is available for purchase in 22 countries, which is far more markets than where Sony’s second-generation VR headset will be available initially. The Facebook-parent company has also launched a bunch of accessories for its headset.
