Microsoft Is Working On the Xbox Series X and S Successor, All We Know

Microsoft has unintentionally confirmed that its next-gen Xbox console is in the works. This comes from newly surfaced regulatory findings that are a part of Microsoft’s ongoing trial with the United States’ Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The regulatory body sued to block Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard on antitrust grounds in December 2022.

The FTC asked Microsoft to provide information about their next-generation gaming system. As per the information, the next-gen system has a 15-character long codename, likely consisting of two words. The codename was mentioned in a motion filed by the complaint counsel on March 14 as part of the ongoing lawsuit.

The Xbox Series X and Series S were internally dubbed Anaconda and Lockhart, respectively. The ninth-generation Xbox lineup was called Project Scarlett. Given the trend, it is likely that the next codename would also have “Project” as a prefix.

The FTC wants to learn more about Microsoft’s next-gen console because it aims to prove that allowing the company to acquire Activision Blizzard could cause antitrust problems down the line. Learning more about Microsoft’s plans will help them argue that if Microsoft acquires Activision Blizzard, Xbox will have too much power that could be used in a harmful way.
