Monster Energy Threatens Indie Devs To Not Use Word “Monsters”
Monster Energy Company has once again targeted a game developer. After having previously gotten into a beef with Ubisoft, over the use of the term “Monsters” in the then title of Immortal Fenyx Rising, this time around the popular drinks company has decided to pick on the little guy.
Monster Energy Company has targeted indie developers Glowstick Entertainment, for their 2020 multiplayer horror game, Dark Deception: Monsters and Mortals. Read on for the funnier bits.
Monster Energy is now after indie developers for the word “monsters”
It was Vincent Livings, the CEO of Glowstick Entertainment who first shared about the litigation filed by Monster Energy Company against them on Twitter. He wrote, “For a company that likes to target their drinks at gamers, they also like to try to bully & bankrupt game studios with lengthy high dollar litigation. #indiegamedev #gamedev”.
4. @MonsterEnergy is a bully that is owned by @CocaColaCo. Do not support a bully company by buying their energy drinks. If nothing else, I hope they eventually learn that going after game studios is not in their best interest. #boycottmonsterenergy

Livings informed that Monster Energy lawyers have threatened legal action against them because their 2020 game includes the word “Monsters” in it. “They claim that our game is confusingly similar to their energy drink,” is what Livings wrote. The statement definitely needs a little more explanation alongside, but that’s all we’ve got.
Add to this that Monster Energy’s letter also includes a warning against seeking trademarks of words “Beasts” or “Unleash” and designs of claws or anything similar to it, like the MEC’s claw logo. Livings has posted the letter sent to the indie developers, with the terms stated by MEC.

Indie studio CEO seeks support online, reaches out to Monster’s competitions
Livings is not one to call it quits right now. He has gone all in, writing that he’ll see MEC in court if need be. He’s even put up a request to help cover the studio’s legal expenses against Monster Energy. On a Tweet from 31st March, Livings announced that he’ll soon be taking to YouTube to do a special Q&A session for the fundraiser, while playing “some game that contain the word “Monster(s)””.

Livings faces a tough battle with the lack of financial support. While he has reached out to Monster Energy’s competitors in Red Bull and G Fuel, it’s unclear whether he will have the backing to fight against one of the Goliaths of the energy drinks world. In the end, it’s very likely that Glowstick Entertainment, will have to battle this Monster alone.
