The sequel to the 2020 action thriller from Russo brothers, starring Chris Hemsworth is right around the corner. Extraction 2 is slated for release this June 16th. However, you might already be asking if there’s a third part potentially in the making, be it another sequel, or a prequel. In a recent interview, the Russo brothers addressed the question of a third Extraction film. Here’s what they had to say.
There’s certainly room for Extraction 3
The Russo Brothers produced Extraction from 2020, which was directed by Sam Hargrave. They also shared story credits, while Joe Russo claimed the screenplay credits. Speaking to Collider, Joe Russo, addressed the question of the chances of a third Extraction film. He implied that it depends on the audience’s reception of the films, but also mentioned that there is indeed room for an Extraction 3.
“I mean, you never want to anticipate the audience’s response, but there’s certainly room for an Extraction 3. There are some surprises in Extraction 2 that could open up the world of Extraction, on top of which, I think Sam Hargrave did an incredible job with this film, and I think that he has topped the first one.”
Extraction marked the return of Chris Hemsworth as an action hero in collaboration with the Russo Brothers, a year after Avengers: Endgame. It launched on Netflix, just as Covid lockdowns took over the world and was an immediate hit globally, soon to become one of the most watched films on the platform. Not to mention Hemsworth’s portrayal of the suave and rugged black-market mercenary, Tyler Rake. It is now to see if Extraction 2 can reach and hold on to the standing achieved by the first film. Maybe that will lead the way for the third film.
Extraction 2 is coming to Netflix on June 16, 2023.
