John Wick Franchise Surpasses $1 Billion in the Global Box Office

The John Wick series is not even a decade old, and it is now officially a billion-dollar franchise.

Based on numbers from Box Office Mojo, the franchise has grossed over $1 billion worldwide thanks in no small part to John Wick: Chapter 4, which became the highest-grossing film in the series last month — as well as the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2023 — while raking in over $425.8 million at the global box office. The latest film’s large opening pushed the series past the billion-dollar threshold with $1.011 billion.

To crunch the numbers, the original John Wick brought in over $86 million in 2014; John Wick: Chapter 2 broke the record with $171.5 million; and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum went even further and raked in $327.7 million at the global box office.

John Wick: Chapter 4 came out on March 23 in all global markets except for Japan, where it is still expected to release this fall and push its lifetime gross a little over where it stands now.

“This milestone is a testament to the incredible work of Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves, alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who have made it their mission to outdo themselves with each successive film in this franchise,” Lionsgate chair Joe Drake told Deadline in a statement. “We could not be more grateful to global moviegoers for bringing us to this incredible achievement.”

In John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves’ titular hitman sets out to exact revenge on The High Table and those who left him for dead in order to free himself of all obligations to the organization. Lionsgate has considered filming John Wick 5, but Stahelski and Reeves were said to have agreed on ending the series with John Wick: Chapter 4.
