Elon Musk announces pic-in-pic mode along with 15-sec forward and back buttons for Twitter

Former Twitter CEO Elon Musk has announced that the microblogging platform will get picture-in-picture (PiP) mode next week. The tech billionaire was responding to a user’s tweet requesting him to ‘add 15 second forward and back seek buttons’ while watching videos on Twitter.

“Coming next week, along with pic in pic, so you can watch while scrolling,” Musk said.

For those unaware, PiP mode allows users to watch a video in a small window pinned to a corner of the screen without leaving the current webpage. The feature is already available for major apps like YouTube, WhatsApp.

Replying to Musk’s tweet, many users appreciated the upcoming feature.

“Thanks. Exactly this feature is one I too want and thought was lacking,” replied a user.

“That would be a welcome feature to multi-task on Twitter. ❤️ that this capability already available with Spaces,” said one user.

“Awesome! pic in pic allows for video monetization without actually embedding ads in the video as it lets users see ads while they scroll twitter!,” wrote another.

While a few took the opportunity to mention features that they want to be introduced on Twitter.

“Please add the ability to keep video running in a thumbnail while viewing other apps, a la YouTube,” said one user.

Another user wrote “Also add the listen only mode when screen off. Best for podcasts. Speed control next.”

“Please make it so when opening twitter on iOS it doesn’t mute / pause whatever was playing in other apps. It keeps pausing my music / video / podcast and it’s very annoying. It didn’t used to do this,” wrote a user.

Recently, Twitter announced a new feature allowing Blue Verified subscribers to now upload 2 hour videos, i.e. up to 8GB. The new development comes after the billionaire revealed his plans of bringing new features to the platform including adding calls and encrypted messaging.
