One Piece: Eiichiro Oda Continued Work on Manga Even While Hospitalised
One Piece fans are praising the dedication and perseverance of creator Eiichiro Oda, who continued working on the beloved manga even while hospitalised.
The extent of Oda’s commitment to his craft was revealed in a recent tweet by One Piece news and translation account sandman_AP, which showcased a full-colour spread he drew from his hospital bed for the manga’s Dressrosa arc.
Despite being hospitalised, the spread has intricate details and beautiful artwork that shows Oda’s passiosn for One Piece.
Back in 2013, Oda found himself hospitalised for undisclosed reasons. However, that did not deter him from pursuing his creative endeavours. Even from his hospital room, he continued to draw and contribute to the ongoing story of One Piece. The tweet also revealed that Oda’s contemporary, Masashi Kishimoto, who is the creator of Naruto, paid him a visit during his hospital stay and was amazed to see him still dedicated to his work.
Even during his hospitalization in 2013, Oda never stopped drawing the Dressrosa arc. He created this color spread in a hospital room. Kishimoto, Naruto mangaka, visited the room to cheer up Oda. He was surprised that Oda was still drawing. pic.twitter.com/NYoIpFbiZT

Oda’s health has been a topic of concern and discussion among fans and the anime community. In 2022, he disclosed that he often skips meals while working on One Piece, leading to unhealthy eating habits and weight gain. This resulted in concerns from his doctor regarding high blood pressure.
Moreover, Oda follows an irregular sleep schedule, getting only three hours of sleep a night. These unhealthy practices took a toll on his well-being, and in 2019, he reportedly suffered from diabetes and gout due to excessive sitting during work. Oda has been following this type of sleep schedule for at least a little over a decade. Back in 2012, he revealed his 2-5 AM sleep schedule in the Weekly One Piece Newspaper.
