PS5 system software update out now – here’s what it does
Sony has released a new update for the PlayStation 5. The new PS5 system software update doesn’t make a huge number of changes, and sadly there are no new homepage tweaks or menu upgrades. Instead, the latest update makes the whole console experience more stable, which is good news if you’ve been experiencing any issues with the system. According to the patch notes listed further down the page, the firmware download also improves the messages and usability on some screens.

Speaking of the PS5, Sony is currently holding its annual Days of Play promotion, as well as Double Discounts for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Hundreds of games are available at discounted prices, including God of War Ragnarok, FIFA 23 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
That’s on top of discounts on GTA 5, the excellent Gran Turismo 7, Dead Island 2, Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Forbidden West.
Perhaps even better is the ability to save cash on PlayStation Plus subscriptions, whether you’re a current member looking to upgrade or extend, or a new user thinking of signing up.
Running until June 12, you’ll be able to get a 12 month PS Plus Essential subscription for just £38. Just make sure you redeem the code by June 12.
Sony is also offering discounts on Extra and Premium subscriptions. An annual PS Plus Extra membership costs £63, while 12 months of Premium is priced at £75.
PS Plus Essential subscribers receive a selection of free PS4 and PS5 games each month, the ability to play online multiplayer, and exclusive discounts.
Sony’s PS Plus Extra memberships include all of the aforementioned benefits, as well as access to the Game Catalogue featuring hundreds of titles. This includes games like Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls, Returnal and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
PS Plus Premium goes one step further, adding classic games, cloud streaming and game trials to the list of benefits.
