Vodafone and Three users promised better signal for free as firms set to merge
Vodafone and Three have finally confirmed that they are joining forces to create the UK’s biggest mobile network. The companies, which have around 27 million users between them, say the venture will offer customers, “a better network experience with greater coverage and reliability at no extra cost.”
The deal, which is yet to be approved by regulators, will mean those who currently subscribe to Three will get access to Vodafone’s network and vice versa. This, the firms say, will double the network capacity making things faster and much more reliable for users.
5G services, which offer much quicker downloads for mobile users, will also see a boost with the new network promising that 99 percent of the UK will get speedy coverage by 2034. For those not aware, 5G is not only faster but far more reliable as it’s able to cope with more devices connected to it at the same time.
Although it’s unclear exactly how the changes will impact customers, both Three and Vodafone are promising that there will be no change to each operator’s pricing strategy as a result of the transaction. In fact, customers will pay the same for more, driven by the significantly improved network.
Speaking about the news Margherita Della Valle, Vodafone Group Chief Executive, said: “The merger is great for customers, great for the country and great for competition. It’s transformative as it will create a best-in-class – indeed best in Europe – 5G network, offering customers a superior experience. As a country, the UK will benefit from the creation of a sustainable, strongly competitive third scaled operator – with a clear £11 billion network investment plan – driving growth, employment and innovation.”
If approved, the new venture will take Vodafone and Three soaring past its rivals. Virgin Media O2 which merged back 2021 has around 24 million customers. EE, which is now part of the BT group has 20 million mobile users.
