Big relief from spam calls on WhatsApp! App will now silence calls from unknown number

Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp is rolling out a new security feature that will automatically silence incoming calls from unknown numbers. The platform is calling the feature as ‘Silence Unknown Callers’.

Announcing the feature via a blog post, WhatsApp says that ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ is designed to give its users more privacy and control of their incoming calls. The new feature will automatically screen out spam, scams, and calls from unknown people for increased protection.

How WhatsApp’s Silence Unknown Callers feature works?

Once a user enables Silence Unknown Callers feature on WhatsApp, incoming calls from unknown numbers will not ring on your phone. Instead, they will appear in the user call list, in case it turns out to be someone important.

The feature is being rolled out globally and is also available for WhatsApp users in India. It is available on both Android and iOS phones.

WhatsApp has also introduced another feature for its users called the Privacy Checkup. The feature will help make sure everyone knows about the options of protection on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp says that Privacy Checkup is a step-by-step feature that guides users through important privacy settings to help them choose the right level of protection, all in one place. To start using the feature, select ‘Start checkup’ in your Privacy settings. From here, you will be navigated through multiple privacy layers that strengthen security of your messages, calls, and personal information.

“Securing your private communication is important because we know people need a safe place to communicate. We’re taking this message around the world in new ways to help communicate why this is so important. Starting this week, we’re encouraging people to check in with one another securely via a private message so friends and loved ones know they have a safe space to open up,” WhatsApp said in the blog post.
