The Flash Streaming Release Status
The Flash will be released on Max (previously “HBO Max”), rather than Netflix or Disney+. We don’t have a specific date yet, though HBO’s Casey Bloys previously said the DC superhero movie will debut on the streaming service in Fall 2023.
What Is The Flash About?
The Flash is the latest superhero crossover film from DC Studios. Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
How to Watch Previous DC Movies
All previously released DCEU movies — from 2013’s Man of Steel to 2023’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods — are available to stream on Max.
Do You Need to Watch Other DCEU Movies First?
DC has released a dozen movies within its shared cinematic universe over the last decade, which begs the question, Do you need to watch them all to understand The Flash? According to DC Studios boss James Gunn, the answer is “no.” Still, if you’re wondering where The Flash sits in the DC timeline, here’s how to watch DC movies in order.
“You don’t NEED to watch anything,” he wrote on Twitter. “It would be good if you know the Keaton Batman exists.”
Keaton starred as Batman in two movies: Batman (1989) and its sequel Batman Returns. Both films are streaming on Max. See our guide to the Batman movies in order for more info.
