Chelsea kit release descends into farce as Blues set for shirt ‘without sponsor’
Chelsea are set to take the unprecedented step of releasing their new shirt for the 2023-24 season without a sponsor on the front as Todd Boehly faces a new crisis. The Blues have been searching for a new front-of-shirt sponsor since their previous agreement expired at the end of last season, and reports suggest the west London club could now be forced to launch their new design without a brand on the front.
Chelsea’s deal with mobile phone company Three expired at the end of the 2021-22 season, but due to the club’s dire situation after they were placed under sanctions, it was agreed with kit manufacturers Nike that the agreement would carry on for one more year.
Now that has now expired, the club have been searching for lucrative deals to boost the club’s commercial income, with Manchester United and Liverpool boasting multi-million pound sponsorships with Team Viewer and Standard Chartered Bank respectively.
But their attempts to find a suitable company have come up short and now, Chelsea have been left scrambling to find a sponsor in time for the opening game of the season. According to the Daily Mail, they have now resorted to releasing a sponsorless kit in order to ensure fans can order the new shirt in time when their new partners are finally confirmed.
