Harry Kane to lay down Tottenham demand in crunch Ange Postecoglou talks
Harry Kane will inform Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou that he wants to leave the club in order to join Bayern Munich later this week, according to reports. The England skipper has just entered the final year of his existing contract at Spurs and is thought to be a target for the German champions, who are said to be in the market for a new first-choice striker ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.
Tottenham are widely reported to be entirely against the idea of selling Kane this summer, even though he could opt to walk away on a free transfer next year if they fail to cash in over the coming weeks. He is expected to report back for pre-season training later this week but is seemingly poised to upset club bosses by underlining his desire to join Bayern before the window closes, according to Sport1.
It is claimed that in-person discussions are expected to take place between Kane and Postecoglou, who will be hoping to convince the forward that it would be in his best interests to remain at Tottenham for the foreseeable future. However, the report states that Kane has already decided that he only wants to play for Bayern and would have no desire to stay in north London for another season.
Other clubs with an interest in Kane have reportedly been informed that Bayern are now the sole contenders for his signature, with his own personal stance on the matter likely to strengthen the Bundesliga club’s negotiating position. They are said to be in direct contact with Spurs in their efforts to arrange a move for Kane, with the eventual transfer fee thought to be the only sticking point in negotiations.
There is said to be a high chance that the saga will continue to drag on into August, although Bayern chiefs are very confident that Tottenham will eventually give in to Kane’s demands and that a deal will be struck in the near future. Only time will tell whether Daniel Levy will be prepared to play ball, though, with the 61-year-old unlikely to be scared of standing in Kane’s way if he believes it would be in the club’s best interests.
Postecoglou, meanwhile, has already insisted that he is not losing any sleep over the speculation regarding Kane’s future before he has even discussed the matter with the player himself.
“If I say it’s annoying me it would be misleading,” said the Spurs boss at a press conference on Monday. “It doesn’t register. I always believe that you’re much better trying to understand what a situation is through your own eyes. For me it’s in my head right now that Harry’s on holiday, he’s on a sunbed and playing with his family and having a great time.
“If other things are going on I’m not going to think about it and the reason I don’t is because he’ll be here in two days’ time and everything I need to know will be sitting right in front of me.
“So, in the meantime, I’m not going to lose time or sleep on conjecture that may or may not be out there because then you’re jumping at shadows. How much of it is true? Nothing’s landed on my desk at this moment from anybody at the club to say there’s a decision to be made there, not even close to that.”
