Tottenham boss Postecoglou clarifies Kane transfer chaos as Bayern switch looms

Ange Postecoglou has shed light on the chaotic transfer saga gripping Bayern Munich and Tottenham fans. The Spurs boss has effectively confirmed that Harry Kane’s exit will go through imminently, despite Bayern nerves jangling after a last-minute hesitation in north London.

Bayern made a significant breakthrough on Thursday when an offer in excess of £86million was accepted by Spurs. The decision was then down to Kane, who promptly decided that he wanted to test his talents in the Bundesliga.

Having initially been given the green light to fly to Germany on Friday morning, reports indicated that there was a late hitch in talks between Tottenham and Bayern as parts of the deal still needed to be ironed out.

Kane was reportedly on hold in a house near Stansted Airport until Spurs once again gave the go-ahead, with Thomas Tuchel waiting to greet the player in Germany. But any notions of a sensational U-turn from the player’s side have been dispelled by Postecoglou, who has acknowledged that the club will now look towards a future without their record goalscorer.

“I don’t have a blow by blow account of the whole thing but I understand it has progressed to where it will happen,” said the 57-year-old. “That’s all the information I have at the moment. It looks like we’ll move forward without Harry.

“I don’t have feelings either way about needing anything. From my perspective it’s about understanding where were are at. I understand the deal is imminent. We’ve been planning for this, it’s fair to say, for a while. It doesn’t take too much investigative work to realise this was going to happen.

Amid rumours of a sudden hurdle in negotiations, record Premier League goalscorer Alan Shearer jokingly offered to fly Kane to Munich himself in order to get the deal done. The outgoing Tottenham man is only 47 goals behind Shearer in the division’s all-time charts.

With Kane on the verge of signing a four-year contract in Bavaria, it remains to be seen whether he will one day return to the Premier League and chase Shearer down. Manchester United have a long-standing interest in the 30-year-old, although they opted not to enter into drawn-out negotiations with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy this summer.
