Arsenal star Saka shouts ‘didn’t happen’ as presenter brings up old interview
TNT Sports host Reshmin Chowdhury poked fun at Bukayo Saka in a hilarious post-match interview following Arsenal’s big win over Lens. The Gunners breezed past their French opposition at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night to book their spot in the Champions League knockout stages.
And Saka played a significant part in the 6-0 drubbing, notching one goal and one assist before being withdrawn to recuperate ahead of the Premier League clash with Wolves this Saturday.
It was the perfect way for the winger to celebrate the five-year anniversary of his Arsenal debut, which he made as a second-half substitute against Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League.
After the final whistle against Lens, Chowdhury said: “Bukayo I’ve got to say, really quickly, when you made your European debut I was the one who interviewed you after the game. Do you remember? Because your answer was: ‘I was so excited, I found out last night and my mum had to put me to bed.’ Is it true?”
Standing alongside pundits Martin Keown and Michael Owen, a laughing Saka responded: “I didn’t say that! I knew you were going to bring that up as well, I knew you were going to bring that up.
“I don’t know why I even said that if I’m honest because that didn’t happen. They sort of told me to go to bed but they didn’t put me to bed, there’s a difference!”
Now 22 years old, Saka continues to go from strength to strength under manager Mikel Arteta. Last season was his best so far with 15 goals in all competitions, and he is rapidly closing in on 200 appearances for the Gunners’ first team.
Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Jorginho joined the England international on the scoresheet against Lens, with Arteta overjoyed at the sight of six different players chipping in to help progress from Group B.
“The consistency that we’ve shown at home to not concede any goals and score lots is a really positive factor,” said the Spaniard. “Those players need to have those experiences and believe that we can do it against those opponents.
“Now let’s wait. We have to park it, we will know in February who we’re facing [in the next round] and let’s see how we are in that moment.”
