After Google, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sends a ‘message’ to Apple for iMessage – Times of India
Zuckerberg, once again, has hit out at Apple showing that there’s little love lost between the companies. The iPhone maker has been critical of Facebook users’ data and privacy – and that’s where Zuckerberg and Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp, chose to comment on the company. Both the executives mocked iMessage by sharing an advertisement for WhatsApp on Instagram.
The advertisement has been put up at Pennsylvania Station in New York City and is making fun of the green bubble/blue bubble design. For the unaware, an iMessage is shown in a blue bubble and a text message is shown in a green bubble on an iPhone. The advertisement has a third bubble just below the blue and green bubbles. It has a light green colour and two blue tick marks that we see after we send a text on WhatsApp and the message is delivered and read.
The text on the advertisement is urging people to use WhatsApp which offers end-to-end encryption to “always message privately.”
Zuckerberg shared an image of the ad on Instagram and says that WhatsApp is “far more private and secure than iMessage, with end-to-end encryption that works across both iPhones and Android, including group chats.” He also talked about the disappearing chats feature and end-to-end encrypted backups which iMessage doesn’t have.
WhatsApp head Cathard explained that the Meta-owned instant messaging app was expanding the marketing campaign it started back in January to tell people in the US about the importance of end-to-end encryption. He talked about the same things as Zuckerberg and also said that “some people still use SMS because it comes pre-installed on phones and many are using SMS because of the way iMessage works.”
Google mocks Apple at Pixel 7 launch event
At the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro launch event earlier this month, Google also mocked Apple for not adopting Rich Communication Services, or RCS, the modern industry standard for messaging. Brian Rakowski, vice president of Product Management at Google, said that “he hopes that every device maker gets the message and adopts RCS, making texting better for every smartphone user.”
