After the ban, Twitter has more ‘bad news’ for rival Mastodon – Times of India

Twitter seems to have a new way to tackle competition – suspend their official account and block any links that lead to it. Elon Musk-owned social media company first suspended the official Twitter account of Mastodon and hours later, reports suggest that the platform is blocking users from tweeting links to servers for Mastodon.
Mastodon emerged as one of the most popular destinations for people, including journalists and celebrities, who quit Twitter citing misinformation among other reasons.
Why is the Mastodon account suspended?
While the exact reason for Mastodon’s account suspension is not known, reports suggest that the handle’s may have been blocked because it tweeted about ElonJet’s Mastodon account.
It is to be noted that ‘ElonJet’s’ Twitter handle, which was dubbed a “bot” or automated account operated by a 20-year-old university student named Jack Sweeney, was suspended because it tracked the movements of Musk’s private jet using data available in the public domain.
“Any account doxxing real-time location info of anyone will be suspended, as it is a physical safety violation. This includes posting links to sites with real-time location info. Posting locations someone travelled to on a slightly delayed basis isn’t a safety problem, so it is ok,” Elon Musk said in a tweet.
A lot of people believe that Twitter suspended Mastodon as well as mass-banned other accounts that go against it and Elon Musk’s interests.

Elon Musk mocks Mastodon
Musk has, in the past, showed his displeasure over people ‘flocking’ to Mastodon by tweeting a derogatory wordplay. Musk deleted these tweets soon after posting them.
In his first tweet, Musk reportedly shared an image of Mastodon and tweeted, “If you don’t like Twitter anymore, there is an awesome site called Masterbatedone.” Then he replied to his own tweet saying, “Gee, I wonder why the screen is so dirty …” In a related tweet, he said, “What do you call someone who is a master at baiting?”
Twitter blocking links to Mastodon
In a related development, Twitter is also tagging any links to Mastodon servers/ profiles as ‘potentially harmful.’ Some people posted links to their Mastodon profiles asking the Twitterati to follow them on the Twitter alternative. They say that the microblogging website won’t let them tweet the link.
“We can’t complete this request because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as being potentially harmful,” show the messages on screenshots shared by users.
