Ahsoka Star Mary Elizabeth Winstead Talks About Husband Ewan McGregor’s Support for Her Debut in the Star Wars Universe

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is soon to join her husband in the Star Wars universe, with the upcoming Disney+ series, Ahsoka. On the occasion, the actress spoke about the support that she has received from her husband, Ewan McGregor, a veteran in the universe, about her debut. Here’s all you need to know.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead on Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor

It’s only natural to be wondering how this Star Wars family deals with their involvement in this iconic universe off the screen. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, will be entering the Star Wars Universe as Hera Syndulla in the upcoming show Ahsoka, which releases in August. However, she’s no alien to the Star Wars universe, as her husband Ewan McGregor, has long been portraying Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. His latest appearance was in the 2022 show, Obi-Wan Kenobi. McGregor’s daughter Esther Rose McGregor too appeared in the show as the Daijyu spice peddler, Tetha Grig.

In a recent interview with the Entertainment Weekly, Winstead was asked about the kind of ‘advice’ she received from the Star Wars legend of a husband of hers, as she too was becoming a part of the franchise. Here’s what she had to say,

“He was just so happy and excited for me. He really was. He’s just like, ‘There’s just nothing else like being embraced by this community and being a part of it. It’s just such a special thing.'”

McGregor’s love for Star Wars grew over the years, despite starring in the franchise

McGregor might now be a bigger fan of the franchise than he ever was. He is someone who pretends that the automatic doors of the grocery store are opening because of his abilities with The Force, as Winstead can confirm. However, he wasn’t always like this, as McGregor had earlier revealed back in 2016, in an interview with Magic Radio. But, Winstead now has more to add to this story.

“Over the years, he’s grown in his appreciation more and more and more and more, and I’ve been able to witness that and to see that grow in him,” she said. “To see his Obi-Wan series happen, and how that felt for him to be greeting the fans and getting their response.”

But for Winstead, being a part of Ahsoka, left a greater impact. She says,

“Just to get to be a part of that world and to be part of something that people care so much about and characters that people are so invested in is such a special thing. So it’s kind of amazing that we get to be in this world together, but not together, you know?”

Ahsoka launches in Disney+ in August 2023. The exact release date has not yet been revealed, but we do know that the show will include 8 episodes.
