AIFF asks FIFA to lift suspension after SC order
CHENNAI: With the Committee of Administrators (CoA) out of the picture following a Supreme Court order, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Tuesday wrote to the world body (FIFA), asking for it to reconsider the suspension placed on it on August 15.
In a letter addressed to Fatma Samoura, AIFF’s acting secretary Sunando Dar apprised her of the developments in the Supreme Court.
“It is with immense pleasure that we inform you that the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India (the SC) took up our matter and vide order dated 22.05.2022 was pleased to pass directions regarding the full repeal of the CoA mandate and consequently the AIFF having full charge of the AIFF’s daily affairs,” Dar wrote in the letter shared by the AIFF.
On August 15, FIFA suspended the AIFF for third-party interference and not following its own constitution. The AIFF had reached out to the Supreme Court asking to strike down an earlier court order that put the CoA in charge of the day-to-day functioning of the football unit.
