AirPods Pro 2 ear tips are not compatible with their predecessor, here’s why – Times of India
Apple unveiled the 2nd generation AirPods Pro along with the iPhone 14 series and the Watch Series 8 at a recent event. Now, the Cupertino-based tech giant has updated its support document to explain why the silicone ear tips that come with the latest AirPods Pro are not compatible with the previous generation earbuds.
The ear tips that ship with the new AirPods Pro 2 have an extra size option — extra small (XS) — which is unavailable with the original AirPods Pro that offers only three sizes — small, medium and large. Silicone ear tips for both AirPods Pro models are available on Apple’s online store in sets of two for each size at Rs 800 in India.
Why AirPods Pro 2 ear tips are not compatible
Apple has mentioned that the silicone ear tips that ships with the new Apple AirPods Pro 2 are not officially compatible with the original AirPods Pro.

The support document explains that the ear tips that arrived with the first generation AirPods Pro have “noticeably denser mesh” than the ones that are shipped with the new model. Apart from the reason that various mesh densities can cause acoustical differences, Apple didn’t offer any other explanation.
The company noted that the silicone ear tips are “designed specifically” for different generations of AirPods Pro. The special design helps the wearable “to deliver the highest-fidelity audio experience.” Apple suggests that users should stick to the ear tips that have been shipped with their respective AirPods Pro.
However, it is important to note that the ear tips that will arrive with the AirPods Pro 2 will physically fit the original model.

Apple AirPods 2 has already started arriving for some customers and are even available on some select offline channels. These new earbuds are priced at Rs 26,900 and Apple India‘s official site assures free delivery in 3 to 5 business days.
