When the girl asked Amazon’s voice assistant for a challenge via an Echo device, Alexa reportedly gave this response: “According to ourcommunity.com: The challenge is simple: Plug in a phone charger about halfway into a wall outlet, then touch a penny to the exposed prongs.” Here is the tweet.

Amazon took notice of the tweet and responded on the Twitter thread: “Hi there. We’re sorry to hear this! Please reach out to us directly via the following link so that we can look into this further with you: https://amzn.to/3sGEtkT. We hope this helps. -Daragh”.
Alexa took its response from a post on ourcommunitynews.com describing a challenge that did the rounds on social media about a year ago, as per a report by Gizmodo.
“The so-called “Outlet Challenge” dared easily-influenced teens to insert a coin into a wall outlet. It got to a point where the Massachusetts police sent out a warning after two teenagers, who faced arson charges, scorched outlets at their high school.”, added the report.
In a statement given to Indy100 later, Amazon said that “as soon as we became aware of this error, we took swift action to fix it.”
