Earlier, a report by USA Today claimed that the e-tailer giant was set to bid for the company that owns titles like — Apex Legends, FIFA and Madden. However, that might not be the case. A newer report by CNBC suggested that Amazon has no such plans and it was just rumoured.
Meanwhile, this news has helped EA’s shares to grow by almost 4% which has given the company a market valuation of over $37 billion, notes Reuters. According to the CNBC report, an Amazon spokesperson has said that the company doesn’t comment on rumours or speculations and the EA spokesperson declined to comment regarding this situation.

Other recent acquisitions by Amazon
The report mentions that the company has been busy with acquisitions this year. Recently, Amazon announced its plans to acquire iRobot, a company known for its robotic vacuum cleaners — Roomba, for $1.7 billion. Earlier, the tech giant revealed that it would buy the boutique primary-care chain — One Medical for $3.9 billion, the report notes
How acquiring EA may help Amazon
As per the report, even if Amazon is planning to acquire EA, it can help the e-tailer to increase its presence in the gaming world. The tech giant already owns Twitch, a popular game streaming service and has also launched its cloud gaming service called — Luna. Apart from this, Amazon also offers gaming perks as part of its Prime loyalty program, the report suggests.

The gaming industry has experienced multiple mergers and acquisitions this year. Microsoft announced its plans to buy Activision Blizzard in a $68.7 billion deal in January and recently Take-Two Interactive said that it would acquire Zynga for $11 billion.
