Amazon: World MSME Day: Indian sellers can register on Amazon with a valid mobile number – Times of India

Amazon India has introduced a new streamlined registration process that will simplify the onboarding experience for businesses in India. This new process will also offer intelligent suggestions to complete onboarding. The latest process will even empower small businesses to easily register as sellers on Amazon’s e-commercesite. Merchants will also be able to begin their selling journey using just a smartphone.
This new system will not only pre-fill the necessary information but will also suggest the best option for sellers. The process will also offer a machine learning-generated store name and shipping preferences. This will ensure a seamless and efficient registration process with real-time support to address any queries or concerns.
How will it work
Amazon claims that this “new and secure experience” will help in creating an account by just using a valid mobile number. Once logged in, sellers only need to enter their GSTIN for business.
How this new process will help sellers in Tier-2 and 3 cities
Presently, 65% of Amazon sellers originate from Tier-2 and 3 cities. The company claims that this proportion is set to see an upward trend. However, many of these sellers face difficulties in completing the registration process on Amazon due to their lack of advanced technological skills.
The revamped registration procedure addresses this challenge by assisting at every step. This enables merchants to initiate their selling journey on Amazon within minutes, free from complications or obstacles.
How Amazon can be beneficial for sellers
Over 1.2 million sellers are currently part of the Amazon India marketplace. The company claims that these sellers benefit from various programs, services and initiatives launched by the company. This includes businesses of all sizes including local stores, traditional weavers and artisans, women entrepreneurs as well as start-ups and digital entrepreneurs who make their selection of products available on Amazon.

Amazon India also offers various programs for local neighbourhood stores across many states of India to integrate their offline services and a chance to sell online on Amazon. This includes focused programs like Local Shops on Amazon.
Amit Nanda, Director of Selling Partner Services, Amazon India said, “The first step in starting an online business – that of registering and onboarding – is often the most daunting for small businesses who are new to e-commerce. By simplifying the registration process, we look forward to more Indian entrepreneurs, armed with no more than a mobile device and GSTIN, seizing the opportunity to sell online.”
