Amazon’s ultimate Fire TV Stick upgrade could finally launch this month
Apple might be about to launch a new iPhone tomorrow but all eyes will then be on Amazon with the tech giant holding its own event next week. The online retailer always announces new hardware during a showcase in September and it appears 2023 will be no different with the company expected to unveil a bunch of new Echo speakers and Kindle eReaders.
But the star of the show could be a big upgrade to the popular Fire TV Stick range of devices. The last time Amazon offered anything new was all the way back in 2021 when it unveiled the Fire TV Stick Max. This telly streaming gadget brought faster processing power and impressive Wi-Fi 6 connectivity to the line-up and things could be about to get even better.
Although no official details about the new Fire TV Sticks have been released, a recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing has been spotted and it appears Amazon could be planning the launch of a duo of devices.
All new tech gadgets have to get FCC approval before being sold so it seems like we could be close to an unveiling and it would make sense for Amazon to show things off during its September event.
The basic image, which was spotted Janko Roettgers, simply shows some technical data about how the devices will work but it’s a still major hint that changes are on their way.
A new design, upgraded remote control and faster streaming speeds would all be welcome additions along with access to hands-free Alexa.
Currently, they only device that lets you summon the voice assistant without reaching for the remote is the hugely expensive Fire TV Cube – maybe that will change in this upcoming release.
We’ll find out the full details in just over a week but until then we’d probably recommend not buying a Fire TV Stick, Kindle or Echo as big upgrades could be coming soon.
