We have been waiting for Apple’s mixed reality headset for quite some time now, and rumours suggest that we might be closer to it than ever. Even though there is still time till we get the first AR/VR headset from Apple, the rumours about what Apple would be doing next have already started doing the rounds on the internet. If analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is to be believed, then Apple is working on a much more affordable AR/VR headset which could release in 2025. This means that if you are not in a tearing hurry to buy Apple’s first headset and can wait, you may be able to save some money.
In a medium post, Kuo says that Apple would be launching a follow-up to its first mixed reality headset — including a high-end and an affordable option — in the first quarter of 2025. He further suggests that the introduction of an affordable headset would help drive the headset drives, reaching a total of 10 million units by 2026.
The ‘no-show’ at WWDC 2022
Apple was expected to showcase its headset at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2022), but that never happened. Apple fans didn’t even get to see the much-rumoured realityOS. But Cupertino giant has reportedly showcased its next big product to its board members, and it could come out as early as January 2023.
However, there is no word on how affordable the said “affordable headset” would be. However, this strategy is not new for Apple; it has released affordable versions of popular products in the past, such as the iPhone SE and Apple Watch SE. So, it will be interesting to see how it turns out. But let alone the affordable headset, we know little about Apple’s first headset. So, taking this rumour with a pinch of salt might be better until the much-rumoured AR/VR actually comes out.
