Andor Gets Thumbs Up From Kevin Smith
Star Wars: Andor has earned a thumbs up from filmmaker Kevin Smith, as the filmmaker said that he thinks it’s the first show that expands on the Star Wars universe.
On the latest episode of his Fat Man Beyond podcast, Smith heaped praise upon Andor, stating that the show is doing things that haven’t been done before in Star Wars. He also admitted that he didn’t care for the show at first, but even he got surprised by how much he ended up liking it.
“This Andor show. Tony Gilroy. Correct me if I am wrong – this is the same Tony Gilroy that did Michael Clayton? I trust this guy to do anything. Michael Clayton is one of the greatest films ever made. That being said, this f*cking show is dope! This was the f*cking show that I had no interest in whatsoever.
“I’m like ‘Andor? He dies! Why the f*ck would I care?’ And this is the first show that I kinda feel like expands the Star Wars universe. We’re not on Tattooine, we’re not necessarily dealing with a Skywalker story. Yes, the Empire is this nebulous– gathering storm – but here in the outskirts the rebellion slowly begins. Had no idea I would like it as much as I do. It’s doing things no other Star Wars thing has done. For example, casual overnight sex. How about that?”
In IGN India’s review of the premiere episode of Andor, we awarded it a score of 9/10, writing: “The premiere for Andor delivers on the showrunner’s promise of a welcome departure for Star Wars fans, as the show settles for a slow-burn spy thriller that hits on all fronts with its story. Featuring a charismatic performance from Diego Luna, the series excels in making itself standout as a brilliant piece of media in a galaxy far, far, away with its production design and premise, and it does achieves all of this without banking on any nostalgia or fan service.”
