Google has been working on a new version of Android Auto for a while now. The update is expected to bring a major redesign in the user interface and layout internally codenamed “Cookwalk”. Android Auto has received a new update which bumps up the version to 8.0. However, it does not bring the major redesign that we were expecting, according to a 9to5Google report.
The Coolwalk redesign is expected to bring the three-part interface to Android Auto along with much better adoption of the different form factors of the car’s infotainment screen. The redesign will allow users to interact with different elements without hiding the ongoing navigation which is not the case right now.
It was earlier expected that the Coolwalk redesign will roll out alongside the Android Auto 8 update. But that seems to be the case here. Also, Google hasn’t revealed the exact changes and updates the update brings to the table.
However, we expect that it, at least, includes a fix for the recent connectivity issue that users were facing with Android Auto 7.8 on their smartphones.
9to5Google has also reported that it is possible that Google may enable the new ‘Coolwalk’ redesign from the server-side after a couple of weeks.
For those unaware, several users recently started reporting connectivity issues with Android Auto after updating it to version 7.8.6. They were receiving “phone not compatible” error after the update.
