A number of Android Auto users around the world are reporting that their Android phone is unable to connect with the car, showing an error “phone not compatible” after a recent update, reports 9to5Google.
Google has been rolling out the Android Auto version 7.8.6 to Android phones, which seems to be causing the issues. As per a trending thread on the Android Auto support forum, several users have complained about Android Auto not working on their phones, including multiple Android devices from different manufacturers.
Going through threads, the issue seems to be affecting many Samsung phones, including Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. Phones from Xiaomi, OnePlus and Asus have not been able to connect to Android Auto. One Google Pixel owner also complained about facing the same issue.
These different users are getting one common error, “phone not compatible,” while connecting phones with their car’s infotainment system. However, the car seems to be showing different messages depending on the make and model. The issue seems to be independent of what Android version or phone the person is using but a bug related to the Android Auto 7.8.6 version.
Google support representatives reached out to users to know more about the issue and said they had shared information with the Android Auto team.
Since the issue mainly seems to be related to the Android Auto 7.8.6 version, you can try downgrading to an earlier version of Android Auto or sideloading version 7.9, currently available on APK Mirror. However, we suggest waiting for an official update.
