android: Google TV and Android TV get their first Android 13 beta version – Times of India
Google has released the first beta version of the Android TV 13 operating system for smart TVs. The first beta version of Android 13 for TV gives us a sneak peek at the upcoming version of the Android TV platform. So far, we have known a lot of details about Android 13 through developer previews and beta releases. Nevertheless, these details have mostly been about smartphones and tablets. No information about what the upcoming version of Android will bring for TVs and streaming devices has been revealed before. Google is going to host the I/O 2022 event on May 11 and 12 and more details are expected to be revealed at this event
Android TV 13 changes and upgrades
According to a report by XDA Developers, the Android TV 13 doesn’t look much different from the Android TV 12, considering the negligible visual changes. The report also adds that the first beta version also doesn’t include features like — expanded PiP mode and Fast Pair support, which was earlier speculated to be added to the Android TV 13. However, Google has mentioned, “Further customisations in Android to improve the experience and compatibility on TV will be introduced with each release.”
Previously the tech giant was rumoured to be developing a new “low power standby” mode that can disable wake-locks and will restrict internet access for idle apps to preserve power for the Android TV 13. The report claims that it is not clear if this change is included in the first beta release.
How to install the latest Android TV 13 beta release
The first beta version of Android TV 13 has now been made available by Google. This new Android TV 13 beta release will allow developers and power users to get a taste of the new smart TV interface. However, users won’t be able to install the latest beta release on their existing Android TV/Google TV device without a specific developer device. The only option to try out the Android 13 TV on a physical device is by using the ADT-3. The ADT-3 is an Android TV dongle that is designed for developers.
Moreover, the Android Emulator for TV within the Android Studio can also be used to get your hands on the latest smart TV operating system. Users can download the Android 13 system image and manually flash it on their test device if they own an ADT-3 developer device.
