Andy Murray vs Stefanos Tsitsipas LIVE: US Open updates and scores

Andy Murray faces the daunting task of taking on No 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in his opening match of the US Open. Tsitsipas is one of the frontrunners for the title with the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem absent.

Novak Djokovic is expected to win Grand Slam No 21 over the next fortnight but if the Serbian falls then Tsitsipas could be in the running – despite the Greek star refusing to look so far ahead.

“I’m focusing on what’s next. This is way too deep to look into. Got to stay in the moment,” he said.

And on his first-round opponent Murray, Tsitsipas added: “He’s still on.

“He’s someone that has been putting a lot of work in to get back and has been playing very good tennis to be standing where he’s at right now.

“I’m going to go for it, try my chances against him. He’s someone that won’t give up. I’ll have to bring some good tennis from my side.”

7.07pm: We are currently waiting for the first-round match between Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys to finish their match. The American pair faced off in the 2017 final, with Stephens winning her first and only Grand Slam title.

7.05pm: Andy Murray has beaten Richard Gasquet and Noah Rubin at the Cincinnati Masters and Winston-Salem, respectively, in recent weeks.

And the Brit is pleased with his form heading into the final Grand Slam of the year.

“Physically I’ve been good since I’ve been here in the matches,” Murray said of his recent performances in US tournaments. “That was also the case through Wimbledon, as well. I was a little bit fatigued towards the end of Wimbledon because of the longer matches that I played in the first couple of rounds, having not played for a while.

“I would obviously like my game to be in a better place. It’s interesting sometimes that you don’t feel like you’re playing particularly well, but I’ve had opportunities in my matches against top players in the last few weeks and not quite taken them.

“Maybe if I do, I’d maybe be sitting here with a slightly different take on things.”

7pm: Good afternoon and welcome to Express Sport’s live coverage of Andy Murray vs Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open.

What a blockbuster first-round match we have on our hands and the tie has obviously been given top billing on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Murray, the 2012 US Open winner, is trying to find his peak after undergoing hip resurfacing surgery in 2019.

But his opponents will not get much tougher than Tsitsipas, who is one of the favourites for the title in the absence of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
