Andy Murray’s mum Judy books £15 Ryanair flight to watch title win
Andy Murray’s mother Judy revealed that she scored a bargain to watch her son lift his first title since 2019. The world No 42 won the Aix-ex-Provence Challenger on Sunday and Judy was courtside to embrace Murray following his victory thanks to a cheap Ryanair plane ticket.
Murray made history on Sunday, setting a new record for the most time elapsed between winning ATP Challenger Tour titles. There were 17 years and nine months between yesterday’s win in France and his last trophy at Challenger level in Binghamton in August 2005.
The 35-year-old came from a set down to defeat world No 17 Tommy Paul 2-6 6-1 6-2, in what also marked Murray’s first trophy since October 2019 and his first on the clay in six years. His mum Judy was in his box to watch the special moment, embracing him and kissing him on the cheek after the match.
And she has now revealed that her attendance at the final was all thanks to a bargain airfare from Ryanair on the morning of the match. “So lucky that @ryanair had a direct flight to Marseille this morning and I could make it to @ATPChallenger Aix en Provence for the final,” the Scottish tennis coach tweeted after Murray’s win.
“And it was only £14.99… worth every penny!!” she added, with a laughing emoji and a love emoji. Judy also shared their post-match celebrations, which involved eating dessert and playing Monopoly Deal.
She wrote: “A great end to a great day. An amazing chocolatey pud and a best of 5 sets match at Monopoly Deal. Let’s just say the tennis title was Andy’s only victory today.”
