Ange Postecoglou sends Harry Kane warning as striker set for Tottenham talks

Ange Postecoglou has warned Harry Kane that there will be no special treatment dished out at Tottenham. Spurs reportedly rejected a fresh £70million bid from Bayern Munich for Kane on Monday, with the striker strongly linked with a departure.

The club icon is yet to return for pre-season training having been involved in England’s two Euro 2024 qualifiers. Postecoglou is due for crunch talks with Kane when he is welcomed back ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

But the Aussie, appointed as Antonio Conte’s successor, has warned the 29-year-old that all players will be treated the same and that there will be no special treatment. He said: “I don’t think it’s my role to sit there and treat people in a manner because of their circumstances.

“I treat everyone the same. Harry is already an important figure in the history of this football club. He’s one of the premier players in the world. I want him here and I want to make this club successful. I’m certain he wants that as well.

“It’s not going to be a conversation where we come out with some kind of understanding. I just want to introduce myself and I want to know what he wants to happen to make this football club successful then we’ll go out there on the training ground and make it happen.”

Despite the Guardian claiming Spurs have rejected Bayern’s £70m proposal, the 57-year-old added: “I haven’t had any assurances and I wouldn’t expect any. With these type of situations you’re never dealing with certainties. I can only go with what I know right now. Harry is part of the squad and looking forward to being back and part of the players.”

Meanwhile, Postecoglou has extended an olive branch to outcast midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The Frenchman remains Spurs’ most expensive signing but spent last season on loan at Napoli.
