Anthony Joshua makes jibe at Tyson Fury lifestyle with cheeky retirement remark
Anthony Joshua is confident that Tyson Fury will come out of retirement to face him as the Mancunian ‘has nothing else to do’ and ‘hasn’t thought about his life outside of boxing’.
Speaking during a recent press call, Joshua said: “Yeah, I can bring him out of retirement. One hundred per cent. I think he’ll bring himself out of retirement. You know what I’m saying? I think he’ll bring himself out of retirement. There’s nothing for him to do, he’s not thought of his life after boxing so I think he’s pretty bored.
“He’ll end up getting a dog, getting a Ferrari, like to keep yourself busy, there’s not much else to do except walk your dog now so yeah I think he will come out of retirement soon.”
Joshua’s cheeky remarks come a few days after ‘The Gypsy King’ announced he would be re-retiring following an extremely brief comeback. Fury had originally stepped away from the sport in April when he stopped Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium but came out last week to affirm that he will be fighting at the end of the year against Derek Chisora in a trilogy fight.
Bizarrely, Fury also claimed that he had replaced legendary trainer SugarHill Steward with novice coach and training partner Isaac Lowe at the head of his camp. But these promises were short-lived. Only a couple of days after announcing his return, Fury backtracked and claimed he was retired on the day of his 34th birthday.
Posting to Instagram, he wrote: “MASSIVE THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAD AN INPUT IN MY CAREER OVER THE YEARS & AFTER LONG HARD CONVERSATIONS IV FINALY DECIDED TO WALK AWAY & ON MY 34th BIRTHDAY I SAY Bon voyage. Usyk manager gives three bold reasons why Joshua will lose rematch
A fight between Joshua and Fury has been on the cards for quite some time and there is an expectation that the winner of Oleksandr Usyk-Joshua II will face the former lineal heavyweight champion in an undisputed unification bout. At the time of writing, Fury still holds one of the four major world titles — the WBC belt — but recently vacated the Ring Magazine title which has been added to the prize pool in Saudi Arabia on August 20.
Should Fury choose to face the winner then he will put his green strap on the line with the victor’s WBA (super), WBO, and IBF titles for a chance to become the first undisputed heavyweight world champion of the four-belt era.
