Apple announces upgrade to App Store pricing: All the details – Times of India
Apple has changed the pricing structure on the App Store and given developers as many as 700 additional price points. Further, developers will not find it easier to set prices per App Store country or region, manage foreign exchange rate changes, and more.
What are the new price points on App Store?
Under the new pricing structure, the costs increase incrementally across price ranges. For instance, prices in India now start as low as Rs 9 and go up to Rs 9,99,900. However, the highest price points will be made available only by request. Apple is doing this to ensure that the potential for scams comes down.
Apple, in a press release, said that pricing will enable developers to choose from a variety of business models, such as one-time purchases and multiple subscription types. These new pricing enhancements will be available for apps offering auto-renewable subscriptions starting today, and for all other apps and in-app purchases in spring 2023. Further, developers will have the choice to price their products in 45 currencies throughout 175 storefronts. Under the new App Store pricing system, all developers will have the ability to select from 900 price points, which is nearly 10 times the number of price points previously available for most apps, claims Apple.
Why the change in price points?
Apple updates prices in certain regions based on changes in taxes and foreign exchange rates. “This is done using publicly available exchange rate information from financial data providers to help ensure prices for in-app purchases stay equalised across all storefronts,” said Apple in the statement.
Developers can adjust pricing at any time to react to tax and foreign currency adjustments. Coming in 2023, developers with paid apps and in-app purchases will be able to set local territory pricing, which will not be impacted by automatic price adjustments, added Apple.
