apple: Apple could make these chassis design changes with the future iPads – Times of India

Apple could incorporate a titanium alloy in the chassis of the future iPads instead of the aluminium-based metal, a new report by DigiTimes has claimed. The report is actually about the upcoming iPad which could come with a physical vapour deposition (PVD) application to improve the scratch resistance of the tablet but it also speculates about the Titanium-based chassis being used for the iPads in the future. Because of the high costs involved, Apple may take its own time to introduce the material into the iPads, maybe skip a generation or two even.
Earlier, a similar report had claimed that the iPhone 14 could be made of Titanium only, eschewing the aluminium and stainless steel case design. Titanium happens to be the stronger and more durable metal and since Apple’s products usually have a long life, the implementation in design makes the devices sturdier on paper.
If Apple is considering titanium incorporation into its iPads and iPhones, and maybe even MacBooks, it would be a major shift considering the material used as the recent models have been manufactured with aluminium and/or stainless steel. It is not the first time the company would be using titanium as it already has it as a casing material on the Apple Watch (making it the costliest Apple Watch too) and the Apple Card. When it comes to integration on a larger scale like the iPhone or the iPad, it is a whole new ball game and how Apple is going to factor in the prices of the models after that and ensure that they do not discourage the most ardent of Apple fans remains to be seen.
