apple: Apple may have some big wireless charging plans for its devices – Times of India

The AirPower has been a rather curious ‘device’ from the house of Apple. It made a fleeting — but left a lasting impression — appearance during the launch of the iPhone X in 2017. In 2019, Apple announced that it’s officially pulling the rug under it, which meant all hopes of getting a wireless charger from Apple were done and dusted. However, it looks the AirPower might just come back from the dead. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple does have some big plans for wireless charging. “I do think Apple is still working on some sort of multi-device charger that it intends to eventually release,” Gurman said in his weekly newsletter.
Gurman further said that Apple has plans to work on short and long-distance wireless charging devices. Apple, as per Gurman, wants to imagine a future “where all of Apple’s major devices can charge each other. Imagine an iPad charging an iPhone and then that iPhone charging AirPods or an Apple Watch.”
It does sound like a rather innovative idea but Apple has an ecosystem where it could create something like this. Interestingly, Apple is one of the few companies that has refrained from reverse wireless charging through its devices. It does have MagSafe wireless charger but that is still relatively new. The MagSafe charging works with iPhone and AirPods. The MagSafe Duo Charger can charge the Apple Watch and iPhone. When Apple announced that it’s pulling the plug on AirPower it did hint that it will launch wireless charging devices in future. The company had then said, “After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward,”
Apple hasn’t commented on the matter at all and it’s unlikely the company will say anything till it launches.
